PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for providing security are provided to enable a user to recognize a security state of a portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(401) receives one or more security parameters for a portable terminal. The control unit determines a security level from predetermined security levels by considering of the received security parameters. The control unit displays the security level corresponding to the determined security level. The control unit determines a weighted value and rates for the security parameter. The control unit determines the security level by using the determined weighted value and rate.
