A method of preventing a telephony call from being diverted to a voicemail service and a communications system having a transit switch (3) for forwarding telephony calls are disclosed. The transit switch includes detection means to detect whether a forwarding call is being diverted or is about to be diverted, and release means to release the call in response to the detection means detecting that the forwarded call is being diverted or is about to be diverted.
