PURPOSE: A composition containing a Chrysanthemum zawadskii extract is provided to suppress pancreatic beta cell damage and to prevent glucotoxicity. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating diabetic disorders contains a Chrysanthemum zawadskii extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water or a low carbon number alcohol of C1-C4. The low carbon number alcohol is ethanol. The extract suppresses pancreatic beta cell damage to quickly recover damaged pancreatic beta cells. The extract also suppresses pancreatic beta cell apoptosis. The composition further contains a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The carrier is a diluent, a filler, a binder, a disintegrant, a disintegration inhibitor, an absorption promoting agent, a wetting agent, a lubricant, a suspension, a surfactant, or a flavoring agent.
