Four pillar roll stand design characteristics - for maximum rigidity

In a rolling mill stand comprising 4 pillars which are connected at the top and bottom by four thick plates, the lengths of the pillars is = the distance between the axes of the pillars. The cross section is approx 1/0.001 to 1/0.004 of the required total rolling force. A mill stand having the above design characteristics is considerably more rigid than those designed to conventional design rules.
