<p>A vertical shaft furnace is equipped with burners arranged symmetrically radially in one plane. Below it are cooling air extraction outlets similarly disposed, whilst the cooling air is injected centrally from the bottom via a mushroom distributor. At any given time only some burners adjacent to each other are working whilst simultaneously only some of the coolant air extractors opposite to them are working. Periodical changes are made in the groups of burners/extractors in active use. Pref. the cooling gas is mixed with fresh air and flue gas, which mixture is injected into the burners. The method ensures that a pressure gradient is built up across the furnace so that the hot gases pass across the shaft ensuring uniform heating of the charge.</p> |
