<p>Screw extruder for conveying, plasticising and mixing thermoplastics or non-cross-linked elastomers, has a shearing and splitting section for the material, formed between peripheral ribs on the screw and the housing wall and located between the conveying and mixing zones. Shearing-mixing section has ribs, arranged helically on the cylindrical face of the screw to form ducts with blind ends and outlet ducts generally parallel to these on the opposite spaces of the ribs. The alignment of the ducts is in the flow direction of the material and they extend axially through a distance appox. equal to the screw dia. Pref. the canals or ducts taper both in width and depth from their wide to their blind ends, the ribs forming one continuous zig-zag between them. The upstream or cutting edges of the zig-zags are in close contact with the inner barrel wall.</p> |
