<p>This invention provides a hydrothermal dewatering system for removing moisture from coal or other carbonaceous solid fuel materials, the system having an autoclave to heat the materials to an elevated temperature and under pressure, wherein the autoclave is a continuous flow autoclave. The autoclave advantageously comprises : i) a positive displacement pumping system to drive the materials in a slurry in a continuous flow through the autoclave; ii) an ohmic heater to heat the flowing materials in the autoclave rapidly and uniformly to the required temperature; and iii) pressure let down valve means at the outflow of the autoclave to reduce the pressure of the out-flowing slurry rapidly and in a controlled manner. The system can be located in a wide variety of industrial locations and has a very high throughput capability and yet is highly energy efficient.</p> |
