<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical device capable of shaping a laser beam exited from an LD without separately preparing an aperture plate. <P>SOLUTION: The scanning optical device causes a laser beam exited from a laser diode to pass through a shaping aperture, then project it to a rotary polygon mirror, and scans a surface to be scanned. The scanning optical device includes a light-shielding wall for shielding the laser light, which is integrally formed with a synthetic resin collimator base that supports a collimator lens for converting the laser beam exited from the laser diode into parallel light, or a synthetic resin housing for fixing the collimator base.
