ENHANCED OPTICAL REFLECTIVE ENCODER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflective encoder which addresses stray light/noise issues.

SOLUTION: An optical encoder and optical encoding system are disclosed. A light detector 212 is elevated relatively to a light source 208. The relative height difference between the light source 208 and the light detector 212 prevents influence of reflected stray light 232 and enables the optical encoder 204 to minimize noise at the light detector 212 without requiring a separate light baffle between the light source 208 and the light detector 212.
