PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for manufacturing a drive shaft having an asymmetrical tissue removing part.

SOLUTION: There is provided the method for manufacturing the drive shaft 20 having the asymmetrical tissue removing part 28. One or more element wires are helically wound around a thin and long mandrel having an enlarged diameter part 28 with a predetermined shape to form the thin and long flexible drive shaft 20 having the enlarged tissue removing part 28. A part of the drive shaft 20 including the enlarged tissue removing part is held by a first clamp, and heat-treated (first heat treatment) to form windings 31 on the enlarged tissue removing part 28 in an initial form, and thereby the initial form of the enlarged tissue removing part 28 of the drive shaft 20 is maintained.
