The invention relates to a method for collecting addressed letters (9a, 9b) in grippers (11) and for conveying the collected letters (9a, 9b) further in the grippers (11), wherein, for the purposes of retaining and supporting the collected letters (9a, 9b), the grippers (11) each have a first and second gripper limb (12a, 12b), and these limbs form an accommodating space. The method is distinguished by a sheet (1.2) which is partially folded along a folding line being supplied, by the sheet being folded along the folding line to form two sheet portions (8a, 8b) which are delimited from one another by the folding line, by the folded sheet (1.2) being introduced into the accommodating space between the gripper limbs (12a, 12b), wherein the folded sheet (1.2) is subjected to a restraining force in the direction of a planar position of the sheet (1.2) by the non-folded sections along the folding line, and the portions (8a, 8b) of the sheet (1.2) are pushed onto the adjacent gripper limbs (12a, 12b) by the restoring force, with an accommodating pocket being formed in the accommodating space in the process, and the folded sheet (1.2) is retained in the accommodating space by the contact-pressure force. The method is further distinguished by at least one article (9a, 9b, 50) being fed into the accommodating pocket of the folded sheet (1.2, 1.3), and by the sheet portions (8a, 8b) being fully guided together and the sheet (1.2) being fully folded along the folding line (2). |
