<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical fiber base material capable of manufacturing the optical fiber base material more easily and in a short time, and a method for manufacturing an optical fiber using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an optical fiber base material includes: forming a porous body provided with a first region and a second region formed on the outer circumference of the first region, and composed of fine glass particles; performing a first heat treatment applying heat treatment to the porous body in an atmosphere containing a fluorine gas; forming a transparent glass body by performing a second heat treatment at a temperature higher than the temperature at which the first heat treatment is performed on the porous body subjected to the first heat treatment; and forming a cladding portion on the outer circumference of the transparent glass body. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
