<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrical connector for an airbag system having a reliable sealing function. <P>SOLUTION: A sealable electrical connector 1 has a housing which includes an end surface and a side wall surrounding it. A seal member 3 is attached to the end surface 10 and disposed within a periphery border defined by the side wall 21. When the connector is mated with a counterpart connector 30, the end surface and part of the side wall are received in a recess 30 of the counterpart connector. Until reaching the final mated position, the seal member is not in contact with the recess, hence mating is made easy and wearing/drop-off of the seal member is prevented. When reaching the final mated position, a bottom surface of the recess and the end surface compress the seal member to cause the seal member expanding beyond the periphery border and in close contact with an inner side wall of the recess to form a waterproof seal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
