<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drug with which various diseases due to an acid-fast bacterium are treated, and a method for using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The drug with which diseases due to an acid-fast bacterium are treated includes at least one selected from among hypericin, hypericin derivatives and salts of hypericin (tautomer of hypericin anion) as an active ingredient (hereinafter, referred to as "hypericin or the like"). Hypericin or the like is a dark-red anthraquinone natural dye contained in Hypericum erectum and a material expressed by chemical formula illustrated in Fig.1. The type of acid-fast bacterium in which this drug is effective includes M. ulcerans, non-tuberculosis acid-fast bacteria and Hansen's disease bacteria.
