<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To connect optical fibers by a mechanical splice even when an extra length of one optical fiber is significantly short. <P>SOLUTION: A first optical fiber 3 and a second optical fiber 4 are butt-connected by advancing, along a mechanical splice guide part, a mechanical splice 2 that holds the first optical fiber 3 inserted from one end side of an optical fiber guide groove of the mechanical splice 2 to a butt-connecting position, at one end side of a lid body, and that makes the other end side of the lid body open, towards a second optical fiber 4 whose position is fixed, while preventing floating of the mechanical splice 2 from the mechanical splice guide part by a floating prevention part, and inserting the second optical fiber 4 into the optical fiber guide groove of the mechanical splice 2. The second optical fiber 4 is kept immobile so as to, even when the second optical fiber 4 has a short extra length, enable the optical fiber connection by the mechanical splice 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
