The present invention relates to a method and system for providing an extensible social network service such that information sharing is provided not only for relationships among friends, but is also extended to acquaintance relationships based on the relationships among friends. The method for providing the extensible social network according to the present invention comprises the steps of: selecting at least a portion of users having an acquaintance relationship with a user logged into a social network service as content-sharing subjects for the logged-in user; and providing, to the logged-in user and in a newsfeed manner, content uploaded to the social network service by the content-sharing subjects. An acquaintance relationship can be interpreted as a relationship in which two users have an acquaintance relationship by means of being connected through a friendship relationship with one or more users.
