The stereoscopic image generating device is equipped with: an image acquisition section for acquiring image data for a two-dimensional image; a depth information generating section for generating depth information that indicates the depth value for each pixel in a partial area of the two-dimensional image; and an image synthesis section that, on the basis of the image data for the two-dimensional image and the depth information, generates image data for a three-dimensional image in which only the partial area in question is perceived stereoscopically.
