<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner reduced in noise during operation. <P>SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes: an exhaust port 34 for discharging exhaust air from an electric fan 2; a dust collecting part 4 communicated with a suction port 27 of the electric fan 2; a soundproof case 26 covering the whole electric fan 2 except for the suction port 27; an opening 30 arranged on the soundproof case 26; a closed space 31 arranged between a vacuum cleaner body 1 and the dust collecting part 4; and an exhaust passage 32 arranged between a lower part of the soundproof case 26 and the vacuum cleaner body 1, which is communicated with the exhaust port 34. The opening 30 of the soundproof case 26, the closed space 31 and the exhaust passage 32 are communicated with each other so that the exhaust air is discharged from the opening of the soundproof case 26, passed through the exhaust passage 32 through the closed space 31 and discharged from the exhaust port 34. Thus, the noise and air whistle of exhaust generated from the electric fan 2 resonate in the closed space 31 and a silencing effect similar to a Helmholtz resonator is obtained.
