<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth detector capable of efficiently performing earth detection at low power dissipation. <P>SOLUTION: A positive side terminal 12 and negative side terminal 13 of a charging unit 11 are grounded by alternately turning on switches 31 and 32. Under these circumstances, earth detection is performed by detecting a current flowing between the charging unit 11 and ground. A charging switch 21 is provided between a power block PB1 outputting power and the charging unit 11. A discharge switch 22 is provided between a power block PB2 receiving power and the charging unit 11. A earth detection controller 40 sets a plurality of target periods discretely arranged on a time sequence (for example, sets one target period per day) to make an earth detection circuit 30 perform earth detection in each target period.
