<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an LED element that can reduce the size of light emission and arbitrarily switch the size of light emission without changing LED sizes. <P>SOLUTION: The LED element comprises on a substrate a laminated structure having a carrier control layer, a lower electric current containment layer, an active layer and an upper electric current containment layer laminated in this order. A p-type electrode is arranged over the upper electric current containment layer. In an in-plane direction of the substrate, two n-type electrodes are arranged over the carrier control layer to hold the p-type electrode. Electricity is conducted through the p-type electrode and either one of the two n-type electrodes to make an electrically conducted n-type electrode of an LED light-emitting surface emit light. Or, electricity is conducted simultaneously through the p-type electrode and the two n-type electrodes to make the whole surface of the LED light-emitting surface emit light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
