<p>Provided is a printer that performs dot-wise printing on a printing medium, wherein the printer enables any given alteration in the size or the like of printed characters without requiring much font data, and even if the size or orientation of characters is altered, highly legible characters are printed. The present invention is provided with: coating material discharge units (10) that discharge a coating material dot-wise onto a printing medium (W); a printing head (11) to which a plurality of the coating material discharge units (10) are arrayed linearly; a moving means (20) that moves the printing medium (W) along a direction intersecting the direction of arraying of the coating material discharge units (10); a coating material supply means (30) that supplies the coating material to each of the plurality of coating material discharge units (10); and a control means (40) that controls the discharge operation of the coating material discharge units (10) on the basis of input printing information and the distance the printing medium (W) has been moved by the moving means (20). The printing head (11) is rotatably journaled in a manner so that the angle of intersection between the direction of motion of the moving means (20) and the direction of arraying of the coating material discharge units (10) is alterable. The control means (40) controls the discharge timing of the coating material discharge units (10) in accordance with the angle of rotation of the printing head (11).</p> |
