<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing methacrylic acid, which can allow methacrylic acid to be produced in high yield. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for producing methacrylic acid is used for producing methacrylic acid by vapor phase catalytic oxidation of methacrolein with molecular oxygen, and contains: a Z element being at least one element selected from the group comprising potassium, rubidium and cesium; a molybdenum element; a phosphorus element; and a copper element. The catalyst for producing methacrylic acid is dried at 380°C, the dried catalyst is cooled to 100°C, the cooled catalyst is brought into contact with a saturated steam atmosphere of 40°C to adsorb moisture, and the moisture-adsorbed catalyst is heated to 500°C at a rate of 10°C/minute. The resulting catalyst has 1.15-3.68 of the value of ((the temperature (°C) of the peak top position)-100°C)/95°C when the amount of the moisture desorbed with respect to the temperature is measured by a mass spectrometer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
