An ion exchange material is prepd. in extended form by treating a cellulosic material, having poly(alk)acrylate copolymer(s) grafted to it, with NaOH to swell the fibres, then with CS2 to xanthate the fibres, then dissolving the fibres in more NaOH to form a viscose like soln. The viscose-like soln. is then moulded to desired shape, immersed in a regenerating bath, and the solid product is washed, then dried. Pref. cellulose material is spruce sulphite, alpha-cellulose, specif. cotton linters. Used in membrane separation processes.
|
