The cranking device has a floating armature shaft (17) that is axially secured by axial securing device (100) in an elastically engaging manner, where the axial securing device partially encases the armature shaft. The axial securing device is formed with an integrated elastic part (102) and a fastening part (101). The fastening part is formed as an annular or sleeve-shaped part for attaching the axial assurance device to the cranking device. The elastic part has a formation projecting from the fastening part. An independent claim is included for a method for axial securing of an armature shaft of a cranking device.
