CONTROL APPARATUS OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To immediately eliminate a state where an ASV catches a foreign matter, and to avoid wrong diagnosis that the ASV has an open sticking abnormality in abnormal diagnosis of a secondary air supply device.

SOLUTION: A control apparatus of an internal combustion engine includes the secondary air supply device having a secondary air supply passage that supplies secondary air pumped by an air pump into an exhaust system of the internal combustion engine and the ASV that opens and closes the secondary air supply passage. A control part included in the control apparatus of the internal combustion engine executes secondary air supply control (AI control) such that the secondary air is supplied to the secondary air supply passage while the ASV is open, and then executes foreign matter removal control such that an opening/closing means is opened and closed to remove the foreign matter. The foreign matter caught in the ASV during the AI control is removed immediately. The implement of on-board diagnostic (OBD) after removing the foreign matter causes detection of the open sticking abnormality caused by the foreign matter caught in the ASV to be suppressed.
