1283990 Rotatable pipe connection SOC DES VERRERIES INDUSTRIELLES REUNIES DU LOING 16 Dec 1969 [18 Dec 1968] 61221/69 Heading F2G A coupling for screw threaded pipes comprises two collars secured by mutually engagable projections so that they may be rotated but cannot by axially separated. In one embodiment (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) the projections are in the form of a spigot and socket, a respective one being attached to each collar. The spigot is provided with external lugs which engage with internal lugs in the socket when the collars are forced together in the axial direction. The pipes to be joined are screwed into the collars and bear on a resilient gasket which may have a coating of P.T.F.E. and which may be loosely located in an annular groove within the spigot projection of one of the collars. A smooth internal bore may be provided in at least one of the collars adjacent its junction with the other collar. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4) the projections are annular radially extending ribs 11, 12, which are held together by a channel section ring 16 which may be of swaged metal and may be composed of a plurality of parts. The ends of pipes 1, 2 compress a resilient gasket 7 having a P.T.F.E. coating 8, and the bore of at least one collar adjacent the junction of the collar may be smooth (e.g. at 15). The engaging ends of the collars may be rebated (not shown) to loosely hold the gasket 7. A smaller pipe 17 may be joined to pipe 1 by the interposition of a flange 18 of the smaller pipe between the gasket and the end of pipe 1.
