摘要 <p>&lt;P&gt;PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for working a metal surface, which makes the metal surface develop a stable color that is not affected by a viewed direction and angle, without depending on an interference mechanism of light, with a comparatively simple process. Ž&lt;P&gt;SOLUTION: This working method includes effectively forming a surface-modified layer, by irradiating a metal surface with a laser beam in an ultraviolet region, which is reflected by a metallic material at a lower reflectance. Specifically, the irradiating laser beam has a wave length in the ultraviolet region of 100 to 400 nm, and the surface-modified layer is formed on the metal surface by the steps of condensing the ultraviolet laser beam, and irradiating the metal surface with the condensed laser beam while making the beam scan the metal surface with a two-dimensional shape. In addition, the ultraviolet laser beam is scanned preferably so that the condensed region can overlap with each other.
