<p>PURPOSE: A portable electronic device providing a mouse function and an operation method thereof are provided to supply the convenience of input and a wide screen by transmitting a screen displayed on a touch screen to a large external display device and using the touch screen as a UI for the mouse function. CONSTITUTION: When an external display device is connected, a data communication unit(220) transmits an output image outputted to a touch screen to the external display device. When the output image is transmitted to the external display device, a control unit(240) switches the touch screen to a mouse input mode displaying a UI(User Interface) screen for a mouse click to output a mouse pointer to the output image. The mouse pointer controls the movement according to a sensing information by a sensor unit(250) and controls a click according to an input to the UI screen. The sensor unit includes a sensor measuring the distance and the direction of the movement of the main body.
