1305186 Change speed gears CAV Ltd 4 May 1970 [13 May 1969] 24238/69 Heading F2D A transmission (e.g. connecting a vehicle engine 12 and a friction clutch 13 to an output shaft 17) including a gear-box 10 having at least one pair of engageable members (e.g. a dog clutch) engagement of which is prevented by a baulk mechanism until the members rotate at the same speed, and including units 16, 18 sensing (e.g. electrically) the speeds of the members, a motor 11 (e.g. pneumatic, hydraulic or electric) for controlling the engagement(s), a manually operable selector 20 providing signals to a controller 19, which then, when the members are rotating at substantially the same speed, causes the motor to effect engagement. When preparing for engagement, the controller 19 may also override the manual control 14 of the throttle 15. When the gear-box contains a plurality of pairs of members there may be a switch 21 providing a signal to the controller indicating which pair is engaged. |
