A rectilinear-motion bearing with recirculating balls 5 has a number of raceways 3 formed in a ball-retainer 1, each raceway having a load-bearing portion 4 with a load-carrying plate 6 mounted therein, the latter having an intermediate thicker portion whereby it may rock as a shaft 2, which is mounted in the bearing, is angularly displaced from coaxial alignment with the retainer 1. The latter may be formed as an integral unit from a resilient, non- metallic material such as nylon, is provided with grooves 10 which facilitate the insertion and withdrawal of the plates 6, and is undercut at 15, Fig. 2, to receive the plates 6 therein. The plates 6 are each provided with longitudinallyextending tapered edges 12, Fig. 4, with notches 13, and with two longitudinally-extending lands 28 having a depression 27 there between. Each raceway 3 has the load-bearing portion 4 connected to a load-free portion 7 by means of curved portions 8, Fig. 3, and is retained in a hard metal sleeve 30, Fig. 1, by means of rings 32. Seals 34 may be fitted within the latter. In a modification an outer shell 40, Fig. 7, is formed of a resilient non-metallic material such as nylon and is provided with apertures 44, Fig. 9 (not shown), to receive load-carrying plates 46 therein. The latter are each formed with a ball-groove 48, Fig. 11, a groove 52 between lands 54 and with grooves 60. The grooves 60 are each engaged by a projection 62 of the shell 40, the latter having grooves 64 formed therein to increase the resilience thereof. The nylon &c. may have molybdenum disulphide incorporated therein. |
