PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a lithium cobalt complex oxide of which the discharging voltage at a last stage of discharging is low, superior in rate property and having less degradation of a cycle property at repeating charge or discharge with high voltage when it is used as an active material for a cathode of a lithium secondary battery. SOLUTION: The lithium cobalt complex oxide of which the general formula is denoted as Lix Co1-y-z Zry Mez O2-a is produced by burning of a mixture of a lithium compound with a cobalt compound, a zirconium compound and, if necessary, a compound of which the metal element has atomic number of 11 or more except Co and Zr or a compound of a transition metal element of Me. The zirconium compound is an inorganic zirconium compound having an average particle diameter of 0.1-5 μm or an organic zirconium compound. In the mixture, a molar ratio of Li to total molar value of Co, Zr and Me denoted as MLi /(MCo +MZr +MMe ) is more than 1, and a molar ratio of Zr to Co denoted as MZr /MCo is more than 0 but less than 0.01125. |
