PURPOSE: A compound which is useful as a dye is provided to ensure high solubility in an organic solvent and to be used in a color filter. CONSTITUTION: A compound as a dye is denoted by chemical formula I or I'. In chemical formula I, R1 and R2 are independently a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1-6 carbon numbers; and R3 is -SO_3H, -SO_3^-M^+, -CO_2H, or -CO_2^-M^+. A method for preparing a compound of chemical formula I' comprises a step of reacting a compound of chemical formula II with a compound of chemical formula III under the absence of a solvent.
