Described is a catalyst for reforming hydrocarbons which contains a mixed oxide having a composition of formula (I) given below, where cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni) and a metal (M) are dispersed in the mixed oxide: aM·bCo·cNi·dMg·eCa·fO (I) in which indices a, b, c, d, e and f are molar fractions, a+b+c+d+e=1, 0.0001<a?20, 0<b?0.20, 0<c?0.20, 0.001<(b+c)?0.20, 0.60?(d+e)?0.9989, 0<d<0.9989, 0<e<0.9989, f is equal to a number which is such that the element maintains charge balance with oxygen and metal (M) is at least one element from group 3B and group 6A of the periodic table of elements.
