PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling an interval between trains are provided to improve transportation efficiency by controlling the interval between the trains using an absolute position of each train with a point control mode. CONSTITUTION: A position value output unit(320) produces an absolute position value of a first train and an absolute position value of a second train. The position value output unit produces the absolute position value of the first train by adding translation distance of the first train. A first buffer value output unit(330) produces a buffer value of the first train using at least one of an error value of a first tacho-generator and a response range value of a first wayside coil. A second buffer value output unit(340) produces a buffer value of the second train using at least one of an error value of a second tacho-generator and a response range value of a second wayside coil. A permissive movement area output unit(350) produces a permissive movement area for controlling an interval between the first train and the second train.
