METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR THE DECONTAMINATION OF SPENT ACTIVATED CARBON

PURPOSE: A method for treating radioactive carbon wastes and a device thereof are provided to classify radioactive carbon wastes into a general waste in a nuclear power plant, thereby removing radioactive materials. CONSTITUTION: Inorganic radioactive carbon dioxide is separated from spent carbon. The inorganic radioactive carbon dioxide is converted into inorganic gas radioactive carbon dioxide and is ejected to a radioactive gas temporary storage tank(13). Organic radioactive hydrocarbon is converted into the inorganic gas radioactive carbon dioxide and is ejected to the radioactive gas temporary storage tank. Organic radioactive carbon dioxide and the inorganic radioactive carbon dioxide are treated with heat in a twin-screw pulverization heat treatment furnace(23). The organic radioactive carbon dioxide and the inorganic radioactive carbon dioxide are separated into the inorganic gas radioactive carbon dioxide and organic gas radioactive carbon dioxide. Wet steam type tritium is liquefied and separated. Radioactive carbon monoxide and the organic radioactive hydrocarbon are combusted and oxygenated in a high temperature catalytic oxidation route(33). The radioactive carbon monoxide and the organic radioactive hydrocarbon are converted into the inorganic gas radioactive carbon dioxide. The inorganic gas radioactive carbon dioxide is adsorbed with a radioactive carbon adsorption column(34) and is removed.
