An apparatus and a driving method for driving an image display device are provided to minimizing the deterioration of image quality due to flickers by implementing a modulation voltage generator for supplying flicker compensation voltages to flicker areas. An apparatus for driving an image display device includes a display panel(110), a gate driver(130), a timing controller(140), and a modulation voltage generator(150). The display panel displays images. The gate driver supplies scan pulses to the display panel. The timing controller generates gate control signals and controls the gate driver. The modulation voltage generator generates voltage control signals according to flicker area information and compensation voltage information, varies gate driving voltages according to the voltage control signals, and supplies the varied gate driving voltages to the gate driver. |
