A driving method of a main power converting apparatus when a train enters a dead section is provided to brake a traction motor in spite of the sudden braking in the dead section by continuously charging voltage at a DC link of a converter unit. A driving method of a main power converting apparatus when a train enters a dead section includes the steps of: receiving a dead section entering signal by a controlling unit; and reducing the current which is supplied to a motor by reducing a torque command value to 10% according to the input of the dead section entering signal. In the main power converting apparatus, a converter unit converts single-phase AC voltage received from a catenary into DC voltage. The DC voltage converted in the converter unit is supplied to an inverter unit, and is supplied to the traction motor as three-phase AC voltage so as to control the speed of the traction motor. The output current of the inverter unit is varied by the control of the controlling unit. |
