An apparatus and a method for preventing image distortion in an image forming apparatus are provided to remove mis-registration caused by the vibration of a photo-sensitive drum when a color image is printed in a color laser printer. An apparatus for preventing image distortion in an image forming apparatus includes an edge determining module(10), an edge direction detector(11), and an area expansion module(12). The edge determining module(10) determines an edge by using an edge filter having an NxM trap mask for each channel of an input image. The edge direction detector(11) detects the direction of an edge determined according to channels by using the edge filter. The area expansion module(12) extracts a channel crossing an edge direction, and expands the extracted crossing channel. The area expansion module(12) includes a max filter expanding the crossing channel. |
