PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for detecting a vehicle are provided to reduce an operation process by detecting the front vehicle for only a part of the video through search area and search window. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle detection apparatus takes a video picture including an object(S110). By the usage of homography matrix, the apparatus obtains a vanishing line(S120). By the usage of the vanishing line, the apparatus sets a lane area(S130). The apparatus receives the status information of a road through a communication unit(S131). The apparatus amends the fixed lane area(S132). The apparatus detects the object through search area from the lane area(S140).
