<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray imaging apparatus and a method of X-ray imaging for obtaining a differential phase image or a phase image with consideration of an absorption effect of X-rays caused by the object, in which the size of the apparatus can be made smaller. <P>SOLUTION: X-rays are spatially split, and an attenuation element is used, in which the transmission amount of X-rays continuously changes in accordance with the position variation amount when the X-rays pass through an object. Transmittance is calculated by using one attenuation element and the other attenuation element that is different from the one attenuation element with respect to increase/decrease amount or increase/decrease tendency in the transmission amount of X-rays.
