<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease changes in unevenness of light quantity on a scanning target surface even when a polarization state of a beam incident to a reflective member changes by the influence of a scanning optical element having optically anisotropy. <P>SOLUTION: A laser scanning optical device includes a light source 11 that emits a linearly polarized laser beam, a polygon mirror 17 that deflects and scans the beam projected from the light source 11, scanning optical elements 21, 22 that form an image of the beam deflected by the polygon mirror 17 onto a scanning target surface 40, and a mirror 24 that is disposed between the polygon mirror 17 and the scanning target surface 40 and bends the beam into a sub-scanning direction z. At least one of the scanning optical elements 21, 22 is formed of a substance having optical anisotropy.
