<p>PURPOSE: An upgrade method of a communication modem is provided to solve a problem which a user is unable to use a communication modem in other PC(Personal Computer) by implementing a dual CD-ROM area within a flash memory of the communication modem. CONSTITUTION: When a communication modem access a host, a first or a second virtual CD-ROM is selected for booting a system(404). The communication modem is operated as a CD-ROM mode through a virtual CD-ROM(406,408). A driver and a CM program are installed by confirming a connection manger program and a driver(414). The CD-ROM mode is converted into a modem mode in the communication modem(416). The virtual CD-ROM is selected by using a CD-ROM ID value stored in a nonvolatile domain.
