PURPOSE: A light emitting device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve light extraction efficiency by reducing the size of a light emitting surface that is an upper side of a planar member. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting device is mounted on a substrate. A resin layer(13) is arranged on the light emitting device. A planar member(14) is mounted on the resin layer. The lower side of the planar member is larger than the upper side of the light emitting device. The resin layer forms an incline which connects the lateral bottom of the light emitting device to the side of the planar member.
