摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the fusion splicing method and device of an optical fiber with a CO laser. <P>SOLUTION: There is disclosed a method for performing the fusion splicing of an optical fiber by using an optical fiber fusion splicing device including: a V-shaped groove substrate having a V-shaped groove for storing a guide pin and an optical fiber; a stage for holding the V-shaped groove substrate; a pressing plate for pressing and storing the optical fiber in the V-shaped groove; a pressing plate holding arm for holding the pressing plate; a hinge mechanism rotation shaft for making the pressing plate holding arm open and close with respect to the stage; and a laser oscillation part for irradiating the abutting section of the optical fiber with a laser. The fusion splicing method of the optical fiber includes: a process of making the pressing plate holding arm close by the hinge mechanism rotation shaft to make the optical fiber abut and align; and a process of irradiating the abutting section of the optical fiber with a CO laser by the laser oscillation part to fuse the optical fiber.
