<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel that has high-definition and high-luminance display performance and is low in power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: A plasma display panel has: a front plate that has display electrode pairs, a dielectric layer, and a protective layer; and a rear plate that is arranged opposite the front plate with a discharge space formed therebetween. The protective layer includes, at least, a first metal oxide and a second metal oxide. The first metal oxide is magnesium oxide, and the second metal oxide is any one of calcium oxide, strontium oxide, and barium oxide.
