A lithium rechargeable battery and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to produce an ultra slim-type battery because a positive electrode tap and a negative electrode tap don't need to bend. A lithium rechargeable battery(200) includes: an electrode assembly(220) having a first electrode tap(226) and a second electrode tap(227); a can(210) for accommodating the electrode assembly; and a cap assembly(230) which has a cap plate(240) and a terminal plate(260) and seals an upper opening of the can. The cap plate has a first weld protrusion(244) formed on the underside thereof that faces the electrode assembly. The first electrode tap is welded onto the first weld protrusion. |
