<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a target for forming a hard coating excellent in abrasion resistance and adhesion; and a hard coating coated cutting tool having a surface coated with such a hard coating. <P>SOLUTION: A target used for forming a hard coating for a cutting tool includes a composition represented by the formula Cr<SB POS="POST">1-x-y-z</SB>Al<SB POS="POST">x</SB>[Ni<SB POS="POST">1-a</SB>Zr<SB POS="POST">a</SB>]<SB POS="POST">y</SB>M<SB POS="POST">z</SB>, and has a relative density of ≥95%, in which M is at least one element selected from Ti, Nb, Si, B, W and V, and the relational expressions 0.5≤x≤0.8, 0.01≤y≤0.35, 0≤z≤0.2, 0.51≤x+y+z<1 and 0.2≤a≤0.5 are satisfied. The hard coating coated cutting tool includes a substrate and a hard coating including a nitride, a carbide, or a carbonitride formed on the surface of the substrate, and formed using the target. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
