<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a liquid crystalline medium; the use of the medium for electro-optical application; and a display including the medium. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystalline medium is based on a mixture of a polar compound having positive dielectric anisotropy, including a compound shown by formula (I) and a compound consisting of a four-membered ring, wherein the ratio of the compound shown by formula (I) is at least 18 wt.%.
