The method involves measuring a deflection of a stylus (8) with a linear variable differential transformer hybrid coil arranged at a probe head (7). An analog/digital converter is provided to convert the measured signal. A control unit is set to provide a primary voltage to the hybrid coil. A raw signal of secondary coils is linked with an offset voltage. The characteristic sizes of the offset voltage are varied by the control unit, until an input voltage at the analog/digital converter falls below a predetermined value. An independent claim is included for a coordinate measuring apparatus.
