The device (1) has a coulometric solid electrolyte electrolysis cell (2) comprising two electrolysis electrodes. One of the electrodes is arranged in an inner side of a gas channel for measurement gas, and another electrode is arranged at an outer side of the gas channel in a gas space containing ambient air. The electrolysis cell is formed from yttrium oxide stabilized with zirconium oxide. A controllable vacuum pump (5) is arranged downstream of the gas channel in a flow direction, where the gas channel and the gas space are separated from each other. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining carbon contents in carbon-containing gas phase.
